Danscompany of Gainesville

Outreach and Chance to Dance

Picture
Outreach to the Gainesville community is an important mission of The Danscompany.  Through teaching a love of dance and giving students the opportunity to participate in performances, offering tickets to those who may not otherwise be able to attend the show, and even collecting toys to help brighten a child’s holiday, Danscompany is thankful for their ability to reach out to the Gainesville and surrounding communities. As part of the December performance of Cinderella, children ages 10 and under are given a ticket to the performance in exchange for a new and unwrapped toy or book.  Toys and books are distributed to local families during the holiday season.

The Danscompany of Gainesville also provides a Chance to Dance through its partnership with M.K. Rawlings Elementary School.  Since 2007, Danscompany members volunteer their time and provide weekly dance classes to students attending Rawlings summer school and after-school programs.  Students in these classes have the opportunity to learn choreography and participate in Danscompany’s rendition of The Wiz.  Costumes are provided for dancers as well as a meal in between the afternoon and evening shows.  Families of the dancers also receive complimentary tickets to the performance.  For four years, the Danscompany enjoyed a similar relationship with Duval Elementary School. For performances of both Cinderella and the Spring Concert, The Danscompany offers complimentary tickets to a variety of diverse community groups including:
